​Can’t sleep? Try these natural foods.

With all the disasters and tragedies making headlines today, you may find it hard to go to sleep, especially after watching the evening news on television. There are some foods that actually contain ingredients that will help you sleep. For example, tart cherry juice is a natural source of melatonin, nature’s sleep hormone. You can get tart cherries fresh or as juice, or enjoy them frozen, or dried. Cherries also benefit your body by helping to reduce inflammation which is beneficial for those with joint pain and arthritis.

Another ingredient which helps you to relax is tryptophan which is naturally found in many foods like milk and turkey. If you find yourself eating a late night meal, turkey may be a good choice, or enjoy a glass of milk if you want to fall asleep more easily.

You can also opt for a glass of nice warm chamomile tea before bedtime. It has been used for generations and truly has natural anti-anxiety, sedative properties-but beware if you have allergies, especially to ragweed or daisies, as you may not be able to tolerate chamomile. Instead of a relaxing effect you may find a decrease or increase in blood pressure or other serious unwanted reactions. Pregnant women and those with asthma should also avoid drinking chamomile tea.
