We all know that holiday time means lots of opportunities to eat delicious high calorie foods. Unfortunately, we often gain excess pounds and then spend months or years trying to take them off.
Now research suggests that you can help boost your body’s thermogenesis (so you burn more of those calories) by using the holiday spice cinnamon. The organic compound called cinnamaldehyde that gives cinnamon its flavor helps burn fat.
Scientists tested human and mouse adipocytes treated with cinnamaldehyde and found a higher level of Ucp1 and Fgf21. These regulatory proteins help to induce thermogenesis and the expression of certain genes and enzymes that boost fat metabolism.
Instead of buying cinnamon pills, find a high quality spice supplier and incorporate cinnamon in your daily diet where possible. The next time you are feeling guilty over your slice of apple or pumpkin pie, you can enjoy it more knowing it probably contains a dash of cinnamon.
