Researchers studied 142 individuals who were confirmed to have influenza. They took samples from each participant during the first 3 days after their symptoms emerged.

Aerosol samples from 23 people were collected during normal breathing, without coughing or sneezing. The scientists found nearly half the samples had detectable traces of viral RNA, including eight with infectious virus. This suggests that normal breathing is a considerable contributor to aerosol shedding of flu virus through exhaled breath.

Professor Milton concluded, “We found flu cases contaminated the air around them with infectious virus, just by breathing without coughing or sneezing.”

The results suggest that improving ventilation in offices, schools, and other public places such as subway cars might also help to reduce the spread of flu. Taking the flu shot may be moderately effective but the virus can mutate quickly so it does not guarantee you won’t get sick.

The best practice is to stay home if you are sick and encourage others to do the same thing. If you must sit in a closed space near someone sick in a plane or at the office, flush your nose with a saline spray and gargle after the exposure.

Stay clear of sick people. Try to avoid hand shaking. Be sure to get plenty of rest. Eat a healthy diet and take MDR OnGuard with patented Maitake Mushroom complex, LoHan, and Colostrum, rich in natural compounds that support optimum immune defenses in the body.
